Now if you have other physical impairments, then you RFC report may have assessed your physical abilities as well. If your report indicate you are unable to work that requires good speech, such as a sales person, a disc jockey, a police dispatcher or a teacher. If your past job require you to have good speech or have a unique feature that requires a special voice abilities, and not able to do the job due to your speech problem. The Social Security Disability will determine if you can do other work. However, if you are older and do not have little to none education or transferable job skills, the Social Security Disability will not require you to adjust to another type of work.

There are several different types of impairments because it can interrupt your ability to speak and for other people to understand you, that can affect your ability to work. This will cause speech impairments are diverse. It can be caused by physical impairments that damage to the nerves part of the brain and control speech or diseases such as   Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Parkinson’s disease.

What causes Speech Impairments?

Some speech impairments appear in your adulthood is caused by brain tumors, traumatic brain injury (TBI), glossectomy (removal of the tongue) or to treat cancer caused by chewing tobacco or smoking, Laryngectomy (removal of the larynx, or voice box), or stroke. Additional problems can exist in a cleft-palate caused by hyernasality, cerebral-palsy caused by dysarthria, and childhood. If you have any of these problems it can be difficult to produce useful speech.

What are the types of Speech Impairments?

Here are some of the types of speech impairments below:

  • Stuttering.
  • Dysarthria, a physical weakness or paralysis of the speech muscles caused by brain or brain damage.
  • Apraxia of speech, the rearranging of sounds within words and inconstant production of sound.
  • Dysprosody, characterized by changes in the intensity of volume, rhythm and intonation of words while talking.
  • Articulation disorders, difficulties with physically learning how to produce sounds.

Blue Book Qualification for Disability Benefits with a Speech Disorder:

If you speech disorder is serious because if affects your ability maintain a job, and to function, you may receive Social Security Disability Benefits. However, you can qualify by doing one or two things for your Social Security Disability Benefits.
